Death toll from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti rises to 339

At least 339 people died after Hurricane Matthew pounded Haiti including 50 people in the town of Roche-a-Bateau alone.

"The eye of extremely dangerous hurricane Matthew is moving away from The Bahamas and towards the wast coast of Florida," the national hurricane center mentioned in a public advisory issued at 11:00 pm EDT October 6, 2016.

Hurricane Matthew impacted Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Matthew is also likely to impact the Eastern United States including the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Hurricane conditions are expected to spread northward in the warning area in Georgia and South Carolina Friday night and Saturday with tropical storm conditions expected on Friday.

Reuters mentioned that the storm could be the most powerful to strike northeast Florida in 118 years quoting the U.S. National Weather Service.

On Tuesday, four people died in the storm in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.
