Flooding in Monroe, Louisiana has claimed life of a 7-year-old child and flooded more than 1,000 homes.
The Monroe Fire Department has received numerous calls from River Oaks. Several people have been evacuated from Parkview Apartments, Oregon Trail and the 300 Block of Nevada, The News Star reported.

Seven evacuation shelters have been opened.

The Ouachita River has risen to 39.5 feet prompting a flood warning for Ouachita River at Monroe from Friday afternoon until further notice.
The National Weather Service in Shreveport expects more flooding in Monroe in coming hours. Flash flood warnings have been issued for several parts of Louisiana until 12:15 pm CST Friday.
