Severe storm lashed the eastern United States claiming lives of atleast eight people with worst-hit in Waverly, Virginia.
Strong winds, hail and heavy rain pounded the Carolinas and Virginia on Thursday. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency.
A 2-year-old child and two men, ages 50 and 26, were killed there during the storm in Waverly, Virginia. A man was killed Wednesday when a tree fell on him in Southern Carolina.
One person died and seven others injured in Appomattox County. Tornadoes smashed Louisiana and Mississippi on Tuesday, killing at least three people, Reuters reported.
According to Virginia emergency management, at least 40 people have been injured and almost 160 homes or businesses have been destroyed or damaged.
