The Nevada Seismological Laboratory has recorded atleast 10 earthquakes in less than 3 hours. Strongest was magnitude 5.0 earthquake at 03:04 pm. Another magnitude 4.8 moderate earthquake rattled Big Pine at 03:27 pm. Atleast three earthquakes had magnitude 2.5 and greater which was well felt in Big Pine area. Others were minor earthquakes with magnitude less than 2.5.
The seismic activities have increased in February this year as shown by cumulative earthquakes graph. After silent for almost around three weeks, the seismic activities near Big Pine area has spiked to its highest point in recent years.

Magnitude 4.8 moderate earthquake rattled Central California at 03:04 pm Tuesday afternoon, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
According to USGS, the epicenter was located 10 km WNW of Big Pine and was located a shallow depth of 9.8 miles.
Light shaking of MMI IV will have been felt by the people of Big Pine, Bishop, West Bishop and Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek. Similarly, people of Mammoth Lakes, Lone Pine, Sanger, Reedley, Dinuba, Parlier and Selma.
No damage or injuries have been reported.
Earlier, magnitude 3.9 light earthquake rattled Southern California. The quake's epicenter was located 5km NNW of Big Bear City at a very shallow depth of 1.2 miles.
