Tornadoes and floods in Oklahoma and Texas force evacuations

Heavy rainfall has triggered flash flooding in parts of Oklahoma city and Texas.

Officials in Elk City, Okla., and Wichita Falls, Texas have issued evacuation orders.

The Weather Channel has reported major flooding on several major surface streets south of Highway 9 in Norman. Homes have been reported flooded in Anadarko, Brooksville and Cache areas of Oklahoma.

The flash floods have forced the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to close at least 15 highways statewide.

At least three tornadoes have been reported near Sulphur, Oklahoma. Another tornado has been reported in in Sasakwa.

Tornado warnings have been issued for San Antonio and Austin, Texas.

Flash flood emergency in Oklahoma and Texas


A flash flood emergency has been issued for Tulsa, Oklahoma, and several nearby counties Saturday night. A flash flood emergency is also in effect for the Blanco River basin in Hays County, Texas.

Three weeks ago, the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a flash flood emergency for the first time in Oklahoma City metro area.

Tornado watch issued for Oklahoma and Texas


NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has issued tornado watch is in effect until 4 a.m. CDT Sunday for much of eastern Oklahooma, including Tulsa.

A tornado watch is in effect until 2 a.m. CDT Sunday for parts of central and southwest Oklahoma and parts of north and west Texas, The Weather Chanel reported.

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has also issued a tornado watch for parts of central and south Texas, including the cities of Austin, San Antonio and Laredo.
