Chile forest fire prompts emergency – 1 killed, thousands evacuated

An emergency has been declared following forest fire in Chile forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.

Some 4,500 people have been evacuated from Valparaiso and neighboring Vina del Mar, Reuters reported.

One woman died of cardio-respiratory causes and at least three firefighters have been taken to hospital with injuries.

About 220 hectares have so far burned in the hills above Valparaiso, Aljazeera has written quoting Chilean Deputy Interior Secretary Mahmud Aleuy.

Valparaiso is still recovering from a forest fire which claimed lives of at least 15 people last April.
