Rainfall, lightning in Nepal kills 2; disrupts domestic flights

Lightning in Makawanpur district of Nepal has claimed lives of at least two people and injured three others Thursday afternoon.

Injured were students of local Shankar Lower secondary School in Manthali-3 and are having  treatment at Aashrang Health Post in Aashrang of Lalitpur, The Himalayan Times has written.

At least 14 domestic flights have been cancelled in Pokhara, Simara, Bhadrapur and Biratnagar due to poor visibility, eKantipur has written quoting officials at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu.

Heavy rainfall together with hailstorm have destroyed crops in various parts of Kailali and Doti districts.

Heavy snowfalls have been reported in Mugu and Rasuwa districts.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division (WFD), the sudden change in the weather was due to the influence of the westerly wind. The winds entered Nepal first from the western part on Wednesday and will reach the eastern parts on Friday.

A lightning in Waku VDC of Solukhumbu district of Nepal claimed lives of at least three people last week.
