Worst wildfire since 1983 causes emergency in Australia

Up to 2,000 firefighters are battling the wildfire which has ravaged more than 10,000 hectares in South Australia.

"The state has faced the worst fire conditions since the 1983 Ash Wednesday disaster", news.com.au has reported.

According to the ABC, intense bushfires are causing emergencies in South Australia and Victoria. An emergency warning has been issued for a bushfire at Hastings, Bittern and Crib Point on the Mornington Peninsula.

The worst of the fires was in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, where the flames had destroyed five homes and put hundreds of others at risk, state Country Fire Service spokesman Daniel Hamilton said Fox News.
