Rare snowstorm in Lebanon kills 3 Syrian refugees

Snowstorm in Lebanon has claimed lives of two Syrian man and a young boy, bringing misery to thousands of Syrian refugees.

The bodies of the two Syrians refugees have been found in the Shebaa region of south Lebanon who were crossing the mountainous border between Syria and Lebanon,, Times of Oman has written quoting the local Red Cross agency.

The National News Agency later reported that a third member of the group had also died, without identifying them, The Daily Star Lebanon has mentioned.

Heavy snowfall cut several roads in mountainous areas of Lebanon. The storm even forced the closure of all Lebanese ports and briefly shut Beirut's international airport.

Snowstorm named "Zina" prompted Education Minister Elias Bou Saab to order the closure of all public, private and vocational schools on Thursday, Naharnet has written.

Thousands of refugees have been left stranded in the Bekaa Valley with very little food and heating oil, Al Jazeera has mentioned. According to the Lebanese Red Cross, it had conducted at least 30 rescue operations in the Bekaa and Mount Lebanon for people stranded by the snow.

The 2013 Middle East snowstorm slammed parts of Israel, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, and Egypt.
