Snowfall in Nepal in December kills a French national

Snowfall in Thuloikharka of Juving VDC in Solukhumbu district of Nepal has claimed life of a French national this Saturday, The Himalayan Times has written quoting the Solukhumbu Police.

The deceased has been identified as Matthiful Le Gall, 29 years old, who fell from an altitude of 4,200 metres while returning after scaling Mera Peak Mountain.

Mera Peak is a mountain in the Mahalangur section in Sagarmatha Zone of Nepal.

Heavy rain and snowfall have adversely affected normal life throughout Nepal. Heavy snowfall has affected the Khumbu area in Solukhumbu. According to Solukhumbu police, foreign tourists have been stranded at Gokyo area near Mount Everest Base Camp.

Almost four feet of snow has piled up at Namche and the Khumbu Valley. Flights to and from Lukla airport have been disrupted. Snowfall has also halted electricity supply from Khumbu Hydropower Project.

Blizzards and avalanches in Western Nepal had claimed lives of at least 32 people in October.
