Landslide in Mombasa, Kenya has collapsed several houses and left 300 people homeless.
Residents of Zaire Village in Jomvu constituency of Mombasa were advised to move out of their houses, Kenya Daily Nation reported.
A 50-metre wall built by Road Tanners Transport Company also fell on the Jomvu Kuu chief’s office, demolishing a section of its walls.
About 663 plots within Mikanjuni settlement scheme are under threat of mudslide, The scheme chairman, Mr Bernard Nzai said The Kenya Daily Nation.
A landslide in Limuru town of Kenya had claimed life of a 14-year-old boy in November.
"The El Niño rains experienced between October 1997 to February 1998 have exacerbated the landslide hazards, thus calling for an urgent need to set up early warning systems in Kenya", United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has mentioned in a research article published in 2007 under the heading "Preliminary Natural Hazard Risk Profile of Kenya".
