Federal Emergency Management Agency: Registration deadline December 14 for Michigan disaster survivors

The registration deadline for disaster survivors in Southeast Michigan is until Sunday, 14th December 2014, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said in a press release issued on December 8, 2014.

The current disaster assistance is for survivors from the August flooding.

According to the FEMA, Housing Assistance offers temporary rental assistance and home repair grants to eligible survivors. Whereas Other Needs Assistance is available for disaster related costs associated with personal property, transportation, moving and storage, or other necessary expenses.

More than $230 million in disaster assistance has been approved for survivors till now. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency had provided the federal disaster aid to the state of Michigan and ordered federal aid to supplement state in September 2014.

Earlier reports have shown increasing flood insurance rates with impact on Michigan According to the Associated Press report in March 2014, at least 1.1 million policyholders nationwide and more than 14,000 in Michigan with government-subsidized insurance are expected to experience steadily rising rates in the coming years.
