UN declares emergency over Gaza floods

The United Nations has declared a state of emergency in Gaza over floods, Aljazeera reported.

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) declared the state of emergency in Gaza City, after two days of heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the area.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated and 63 schools have been closed for the day in Gaza City, BBC mentioned.

The Agency has established an Area Emergency Operations room in Gaza City following contingency planning undertaken last week, UNRWA said in its press release.

UNRWA has provided 60,000 litres emergency fuel supplies to run back-up generators of pumping stations and portable pumps.
