Flash floods in Slovenia causes major damage

Flash floods caused by heavy downpour in Slovenia have caused great damage to properties, Slovenian Press Agency reported.

Slovenia was hit by the third major flooding this year with the worst disruption reported from Ljubljana, Slovenia Times mentioned.

In eight hours time interval, around 137 millimetres of rainfall was registered in Ljubljana and over 200 mm in Gorenja Vas.

At least 900 buildings in the Ljubljana basin were flooded. In addition, the damage in the Poljanska dolina valley were estimated at more than 30 million euros, Xinhua reported.

Power outages have affected 17,000 households in the Å tajersko region.

Around 20,000 lightning strikes have been recorded by the Marko Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute over the past night.
