3 killed in avalanche on Kanchenjunga, the world's third tallest peak

Mount Kanchenjunga avalanche in Nepal has claimed lives of three people including one from India.

According to the Nepalese officials, the three were swept away by an avalanche and were believed to be dead.

They scaled Kanchenjunga on Sunday and were attempting to climb Yalung Kang, a sister peak.

The deceased have been identified as Temba Sherpa and Dawa Wangju Sherpa of Taamku VDC-5, Taplejung, Nepal and Chanda Gayen of West Bengal, India. Gayen is known as the first civilian woman from West Bengal to climb Mount Everest.

The single deadliest avalanche ever on the world's highest peak, Mount Everest had claimed lives of at least 15 people a few weeks ago.

At least five mountaineers were killed in an avalanche while returning from the peak of Mt Kanchenjunga a year ago. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world located in Nepal.
