Very severe cyclonic storm Phailin has affected people in India, Thailand, Myanmar and Nepal claiming lives of at least 43 people in India, local medias reported.
Cyclone Phailin triggered India's biggest evacuation operation in 23 years, NDTV reported. About 5,50,000 people have been evacuated from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced Rs. 2 lakh to each of those killed in Cyclone Phailin and Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured.

The accurate forecasting by India's Met Department and The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD led to comparatively less destruction. Cyclonic storm Phailin made landfall near Gopalpur in Odisha.
The name Phailin has been given by Thailand which means a Sapphire.
