Odisha flood kills 2, displaces 1,000

Flash floods in Odisha, India have claimed lives of two people and displaced about 1,000 others, The Times Of India reported.

Fatalities are from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. More than 150 villages in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts have been affected.

Nearly 1,000 people have been evacuated from Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Baitarani, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts.

The state government has already directed all officials connected with flood management to be in position and initiate relief operations. More rain is predicted in the next two days.

Cyclone and flood in Odisha are common as the important districts are situated near to the Bay of Bengal. Similarly, poor water management has also made drought and floods common in Odisha.

Earlier in July 2013, flash floods in Odisha had claimed lives of three people.
