Heat warnings, advisories and alerts have been issued across the U.S. East Coast as heat wave begins.
A heat advisory has been issued for New York City until midnight Tuesday by the National Weather Service. More than 400 cooling centers are opened, Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said.
Similarly heat warnings and advisories are in effect across much of eastern Pennsylvania, The Weather Channel reported. Cooling centers are opened in several communities of Connecticut too.
The health officials have declared a Code Red Heat Alert in Maryland. Heat alert will last till Friday.
According to Baltimore City Health Department, cooling centers on Code Red Heat Alert days will be opened from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends. One can also call 911 if they are having a heat-related emergency.
Earlier reports have shown heat as the second-leading cause for weather-related deaths.
