Heavy rainfall has caused flash flood in Odisha's Kalahandi district affecting nearly 15,000 people, local media reported.
Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Bolangir and Koraput districts are said to be heavy hit by flash floods.
Flood water has washed away two fair weather bridges joining Kalampur and Junagarh in Kalahandi district. Parts of highways between Junagarh and Dharmagada have also been washed away.
According to the Revenue and Disaster Management Department official, 660 mm rainfall has been recorded in Thuamul Rampur block.
The government has already asked all districts collectors to remain alert as more rains are predicted in other parts of the state in next 48 hours.
Cyclone and flood in Odisha are common as the important districts are situated near to the Bay of Bengal. Similarly, poor water management has also made drought and floods common in Odisha.
According to the disaster management minister Yashpal Arya, flash flood in Uttarakhand has claimed lives of at least 5,000 people. About 19,000 people are still stranded in the disaster area.
