Elviira, Finland's biggest storm in century brings 28,000 lightning strikes

Finland has been hit by biggest storm in century combined with more than 28,000 lightning strikes.

According to Yle, so called Elviira storm is the biggest storm in Finland this century.

The all-time lightning strikes record in Finland was 40,000 on June 29, 1988.

Luckily no serious storm damage has been reported.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute had earlier issued the emergency warning on severe thunderstorms in Central Finland, Southern Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia.

According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, emergency warnings were issued on the radio channels of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) and on commercial radio channels operating under a long-term licence.
