M 5.5 strong earthquake shakes Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 9 km NNW of Buka and 41 km S of Tashkent. It was 9.8 miles deep.
Earthquake was felt for several seconds in Tashkent. Light to weak shaking were reported in Tashkent, Olmaliq and Samarqand.
Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara region in Uzbekistan are located in active tectonic area.
Uzbekistan earthquake 1996 measured 7.5 on the Richter scale.
No damage or injuries have been reported.
