Moderate earthquake hits Dominican Republic

M 4.6 moderate earthquake hits Dominican Republic today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 32 km SE of Boca de Yuma. It was 55.8 miles deep.

Light to weak shaking was experienced by the people in the coastal areas.

The 1946 Dominican Republic earthquake claimed lives of around 100. Magnitude 8.1 near Samaná, Dominican Republic also generated Tsunami causing widespread damage across Hispaniola.
