Cyclonic storms in Tripura, India claim 7

Cyclonic storms with lightning and rains have claimed lives of at least seven people in Tripura, India based India TV reports.

Landslide also buried a home at Simna in western Tripura killing a sixty-year-old grandmother and her 17-year-old-son grandson. At least 20 people were injured by lightning strikes.

Severe weather affected flights on the Agartala-Kolkata-Guwahati-Delhi routes.

Government has allocated Rs.1,000 to Rs.10,000 as emergency disaster relief assistance to each affected family.

The Met Office in Agartala has forecast more rains and cyclonic storms for next two days. Cyclonic storms in Tripura, India in April 2012 claimed seven lives.
