Storm in Kolkata, India claims 3 lives

Recent storm in Kolkata, India has claimed lives of three people including a three-year-old girl, Indian news medias mention.

A tree uprooted by storms hit the three-year-old girl at Domjur in Howrah district. Other victims are from Kachua Bazar in Kashipur and Banharishpur in Hawrah district each.

Following Kolkata Municipal Officials, storms have uprooted about seventy five trees in various part of the city.

Storms, Locally known as Nor'wester in Kolkata today have disrupted the flight services at NSC Bose International airport. Several local trains from Howrah station have also been cancelled or delayed.

Disaster response team have reached the site. A clean up work has also been started.

Aila, a severe cyclonic storm in Kolkata in 2009 alone claimed 18 lives. Storm claimed a total of 330 lives and caused damage of $552.6 million in India and Bangladesh.
