Bangladesh Nor’wester claims 5

Nor’wester claimed five lives including two children in Tangail, Sirajganj and Gaibandha area of Bangladesh, BdNews24 mentions.

Nor’wester claimed two children in Sadar upazila in Tangail. Storm in Tangail also damaged primary and high school, a mosque and a madrassa.

One woman died in house collapse in Dumrai village in Sirajganj. At least 30 villages have been affected in Sadar and Kamarkhand Upazila.

Two died in Gaibandha area including a woman in lightning strike.

Severe local storms including tornadoes occurs frequently in Bangladesh. Severe local storms, the most important natural hazards in Bangladesh, during the pre-monsoon season in March, April and May in Bangladesh is called as "Nor'wester" locally or "Kalbaishaki" in Bangla.

Bangladesh is third country with the highest frequency of tornadoes, behind the United States and Canada. Tornado in Bangladesh in March 2013 claimed dozens of lives.
