Windstorm in Gabrovo, Bulgaria kills 1: State of emergency declared

Windstorm in Bulgarian Gabrovo has killed a 20-year-old woman. State of emergency has been declared in Gabrovo.

Strong wind in Gabrovo region of Bulgaria has killed a 20-year-old woman. The woman died in hospital where she was transported in critical stage after hit by scaffolding swept by storm wind.

State of emergency has been declared in Gabrovo district of Bulgaria. Train services between Tryavna-Plachkovtsi have been suspended.

All schools in Gabrovo will be closed on March 15.

Following Tanya Hristova, Mayor of Gabrovo Municipality, the wind speed in Gabrovo exceeds 120 km/hr.

National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued orange code for Smolyan district and yellow code in rest of the country. The strongest wind is registered in Kardzhali, 28m/s with gusts of 34 m/s. 

Nine teams of Fire Safety and Civil Protection are on the disaster zone. There is currently no power supply in Tryavna Municipality.
