  • Flooding in Isoka, Zambia
    -Four people have killed in flooding in Isoka district of Muchinga province in Zambia. Two people died in Milongo in the flooded Kaumba River and two others died in the flooded Ntonga River.
    -Landslide disaster displaced at least 20 families in Kampumbu agricultural block in Isoka district of Zambia.
    -The 2009 Angola, Namibia and Zambia floods killed 131 people and caused damage of at least $5 million (Photo: Floods Zambia 2009; Reuters).

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter located 42 km ESE of Chubek (Tajikistan). People of Kulob, Vose and Rustaq (Afghanistan) will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Crete, Greece (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 50 km WSW of Ayia Galini. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Rethymnon, Chania and Irakleion.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Luzon, Philippines (@ 55 km depth) with epicenter located just 7 km N of Labayug. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Itogon, Guiset East, Baguio, City of San Fernando, Bacnotan, Tuguegarao, Aparri and Baguio City.

  • M 4.0 light earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located just 3 km ENE of Zimatlan de Alvarez. People of Puerto Escondido, Trinidad de Zaachila, San Jacinto Ocotlan and Cuilapan de Guerrero will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Croatia (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 16 km NNW of Solin. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Split, Sinj, Trogir and Marina.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.
  • A new evacuation plans is set up in case of Mt Fuji volcano eruption. A number of small quakes have been recorded in 2013 near and under Mt Fuji in Japan. Following a report recently published by the Japan Times, Mount Fuji new eruption could force some 567,000 people to evacuate their homes.  


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Felleng
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Felleng was located 745 nm south of La Reunion.
    -
    Tropical Cyclone Felleng caused heavy rainfall in Madagascar, Reunion and Mauritius.
    -Cyclone Felleng in Madagascar killed five people some days ago. Floods displaced more than 700 people in Antananarivo.
     


Natural Disaster News
  • Storms in Hai, Tanzania
    -Storms in Hai, Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania destroyed 50 houses.
    -Heavy rain displaced 100 families.
    -Natural disaster also destroyed a total of 255 acres of maize and 177 acres of banana plants.
  •  DA14 asteroid will pass very close to Earth on February 15, 2013. The DA14 asteroid is 45 meters big. Though the maximum close-up of  DA14 asteroid with Earth will be 28,000 km, it won't hit the Earth. With the news of asteroid passing by February 15, 2013, the natural disaster rumor for the end of the world has spread again.
  • Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and researchers from Microsoft have created disaster prediction software. Disaster prediction software can predict things like disease outbreaks, violence, and natural disasters.
