  • Landslide in Yunnan province of China
    -A landslide in south-western China killed at least 42 people. The landslide hit Gaopo village at 8.20 a.m. and buried homes of all its 16 families today morning.
    -Over 1,000 rescuers searched the missing people in landslide disaster area with five excavators and four front-loader trucks.
    -Emergency teams so far rescued two injured people from the landslide debris.
    -Landslide in Zhenhe (Yunnan province) killed 18 school children in October 2012.
    -Gaopo is in Zhenxiong county, in the northeast of Yunnan, China (Photo: Chinese rescuers searching for victims of the landslide; Reuters: China Daily).
    Update
    -Death toll from Yunnan landslide has risen to 46. Those buried in landslide includes 27 adults and 19 children.
    -The landslide spread over an area 120 metres (yards) long, 110 metres wide and 16 metres deep.

  • Tropical Cyclone Narelle
    -Tropical Cyclone Narelle (which is now a Category 4) is now estimated to be 505 kilometres north of Exmouth and 505 kilometres northwest of Karratha and moving southwest at 12 kilometres per hour.
    -A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Roebourne to Coral Bay,
    including Karratha, Dampier, Onslow and Exmouth.
    A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal areas from Coral Bay to Carnarvon.
    -Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour could develop in coastal areas between Roebourne and Exmouth during this afternoon, then extend south to Coral Bay on Saturday.
    Gale warning for the following areas:
    Pilbara Coast East, Pilbara Coast West and Ningaloo Coast
    Strong wind warning for the following areas:

  • M 4.9 moderate deep earthquake in Guatemala (@ 230 km depth) with epicenter located just 2 km SW of Todos Santos Cuchumatan. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Santa Cruz la Laguna, Jacaltenango, Huehuetenango and Soloma.

  • M 4.3 light shallow earthquake in Aegean Sea (@ 6 km depth) with epicenter located 46 km (28 miles) SE of Myrina (Greece). It will have faintly felt by the people of Mitilini, Ezine and Canakkale (Turkey).

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in Malawi, Africa
    -Flooding in Malawi southeast Africa killed three and displaced 5,000people.
    -One person was killed when their home collapsed and two others were washed away by flood waters.
    -Heavy rains and strong winds caused deadly flooding in Malawi.

  • Tropical Cyclone Narelle

Natural Disaster News
  • Severe weather across Mississippi and Louisiana
    -Gov. BobbyJindal has declared a statewide emergency after storms rolled across Louisiana.
    -At least three tornadoes touched down in Louisiana Thursday morning: one near New Iberia, another in Breaux Bridge and a third near Plaquemine.
    -An industrial plant south of Plaquemine was damaged by a tornado.
    -Several mudslides reported at Natchez streets.
    -Floods affected Gentry High School in Indianola. Students were shifted when the classroom flooded.
    -There was also localized street flooding in parts of Vicksburg. Two people were rescued.
    -Downed trees were reported along the Natchez Trace and Mississippi Highway 547 near Port Gibson. Click for more updates on Mississippi and Louisiana storms.
  • Snowstorms in Saskatchewan, Canada
    -Snowstorms closed the Trans-Canada Highway near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.

    Travel is not recommended from the Alberta border to east of Regina.
