Most of the United States was hit by extreme weather. Researchers say that the 2012 drought is the worst since 1988. Major earthquakes struck in Italy, the Philippines, Iran, and Afghanistan. Recent Natural Disasters
- Flooding in Phattalung, Thailand
-More than 3,500 families in five different districts of Phatthalung over the Gulf of Thailand have been affected by recent floods.
-Floods destroyed a bridge leading to Moo 10 village in tambon Khao Jiak in Muang district of Thailand.
-People of Pa Bon, Tamot, Kong Ra, Si Nakharin and Si Banphot are said to stay in a high alert. More floods and mudslides are expected in coming days.
-Phatthalung governor Winyu Tongsakul has instructed district chiefs in the affected areas to immediately assess damage and report the findings (Photo: Bangkokpost).

-As of 12:00 UTC, TC Freda was located 390 nm northwest of Noumea, New Caledonia.
-On January 3, 2013 the cyclone is expected to lie to the west of New Caledonia.
Natural Disaster News
- Avalanches in Are, Sweden
- A ski resort in Are, Sweden was hit by four avalanches.
-Level 3 (out of 5) avalanche alerts were issued earlier for Are, Bydalen and Ramundberget.
-A helicopter, mountain rescue personnel and search dogs were sent to the resort. However no injury reported.
