Total blackout rumor which is viral over Facebook claims that December 2012 blackout will be caused due to Earth Alignment.

Below is the you tube video attached with the message. The video was recorded in June 2011 and not related in any way to december 2012 blackout.
It was recorded as part of a wider government preparedness campaign. Original full video can be viewed on official NASA website here.
What NASA officials says about December 2012 total blackout:
Neither NASA nor any other scientific organization is predicting such a blackout starting from dec 23, 2012. The false reports on this issue claim that some sort of “alignment of the Universe” will cause a blackout.
There are no planetary alignments in the next few decades and even if these alignments were to occur, their effects on the Earth would be negligible.
Last alignment occurred in 2000. One major alignment occurred in 1962.
Note that Each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

About the message: The messages was first posted in August, 2012 but in december 2012 it has became viral. It is because cataclysmic or transformative events is predicted to occur on 21 December 2012. This date is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. The phenomenon was followed after Mayan archaeologists met in Guatemala and confirmed the end date for the Mayan Prophecy is December 21, 2012. That’s when the world will end.
Some advocates for the 2012 catastrophe say that what will actually cause the devastation is an alignment of planets. There is no planet alignment on the winter solstice in 2012. Nonetheless, advocates of doom connect the fictional alignment to astrological predictions or groundless claims about a reversal of Earth's magnetic field and unprecedented solar storms. Many internet postings and guests on all-night apocalyptic radio have elaborated on these themes.
Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012?
Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Below is the message which is viral over facebook since August 2012:
NASA predicts total blackout between 23-25 Dec 2012 during alignment of UniverseBut what about the December 2012 blackout video: Blackout viral message also includes a text linked to a two-and-a-half-minute YouTube video where NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden, Jr. is recommending his employees and contractors to develop family preparedness plans in case of emergencies.
US scientists predict Universe change, total blackout of planet for 3 days from Dec 23 2012.
It is not the end of the world, it is an alignment of the Universe, where the Sun and the earth will align for the first time. The earth will shift from the current third dimension to zero dimension, then shift to the forth dimension. During this transition, the entire Universe will face a big change, and we will see a entire brand new world.
The 3 days blackout is predicted to happen on Dec 23, 24, 25....during this time, staying calm is most important, hug each other, pray pray pray, sleep for 3 nights...and those who survive will face a brand new world....for those not prepared, many will die because of fear. Be happy, enjoy every moment now. Don't worry, pray to God everyday. There is a lot of talk about what will happen in 2012, but many people don't believe it, and don't want to talk about it for fear of creating fear and panic.
We don't know what will happen, but it is worth listening to USA's NASA talk about preparation. Whether it's true or not, better be prepared. No panic, stay calm, just prays. Remember to smile more, love more and forgive more...every day. Better avoid traveling during December.
