Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Maguindanao, Philippines
    -One killed after flooding in 14 low-lying villages in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao area of Philippines.
    -Bulalo, Bulibod, Gang, Makabiso, Rebuken, Darapanan, Bungabong, Kakar, and Inawan are the villages affected by recent floods.
    -Floods displaced more than 5,000 villagers.
    -Hundreds of soldiers from the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion are working in rescue operation.
    -Flash flood is caused by heavy rains a few days ago in hinterlands in the northeastern part of Maguindanao.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Montenegro (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km W of Danilovgrad. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Cetinje, Niksic, Butua and Cattoro, Teodo and Podgorica (Serbia and Montenegro).

    Update
    -More than 20 aftershocks, raging from 1.6 to 2.6 degrees were followed in Montenegro.
    -The 1979 Montenegro earthquake killed 136 people.
  • M 6.4 very strong but harmless sea quake in Gulf of Alaska (@ 55 km depth) with epicenter located 289 km SW from Yakutat. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Skagway, Sitka, Juneau, Valdez, Homer, Eagle River, Cordova and Anchorage.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Bajhang, Nepal with epicenter located east of Chainpur. Yesterday magnitude 5.6, moderately dangerous earthquake hit south of Bajhang district of Nepal.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Sucre, Venezuela (@ 79 km depth) with epicenter located 37 km ENE of Gueiria. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Carenage, Chaguanas, Couva, Mucurapo, San Juan, Toco, Port-of-Spain, Chaguanas and  Point Fortin (Trinidad and Tobago).

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 30 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km S of San Rafael Abajo. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tejar,  Escazu, Aserri, San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia, Cuadrante Arenal, Cartago and Puntarenas.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Tocantins and Ana Doce Ponte Nova), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong, Xi Jiang and Huang He), Colombia (Japura), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lualaba), Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iraq (Tigris), Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan (White Nile and Blue Nile), Tajikistan, United States (Mississippi) and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flooding in Lausanne, Switzerland
    -Flooding reported in the lakeside Vidy area of Lausanne. International Olympic Committee (IOC) was also closed.
    -The flooding cut power and telephone service in IOC office.

  • Flash flood in Serengeti District of Tanzania
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Serengeti District of Tanzania. Flood destroyed Nyiboko Primary School.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Propocatepetl, Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Marapi, Semeru, Paluweh, Gamalama, Lokon-Empung, Sakurajima, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kizimen, Shiveluch and Kilauea volcano.
  • Alaska/Cleveland recent volcanic activity
    -A small ash cloud from Mount Cleveland observed recently by an Earth-orbiting satellites.
    -Aviation code color of Cleveland has been raised from yellow to orange.
    -Cleveland volcano is located 75 kilometers west of the community of Nikolski, and 1,500 kilometers southwest of Anchorage.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
There are no tropical storm activity today.

  1. Flooding is a big problem in the Philippines almost all the time. I have two friends that lived there for two years and they said that it was almost like clock work that your home will be flooded every month.
