- Flooding in Alpine stream, Switzerland
-Two people reported to be killed by a sudden flood in an Alpine stream in Switzerland. Belgian guide and a German woman are among the dead.
-Five others were rescued and taken to hospital with light injuries.
-At least 18 tourists and three guides were killed in similar tragedy in 1999 in a brook in central Switzerland.

12:18 UTC (local time Monday, October 08, 2012 at 02:18 PM @ epicenter) - M 6.3 strong earthquake in Banda sea (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 112 km SSE of Saparua. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Amahai and Ambon.
11:43 UTC (local time Monday, October 08, 2012 at 08:43 PM @ epicenter) - M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Northwestern Iran (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 36 km ENE from Tabriz. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Ardabil, Khvoy and Yerevan.
08:25 UTC (local time Monday, October 08, 2012 at 11:55 AM @ epicenter) - M 6.0 very strong earthquake in Gulf of California (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 92 km SW of Los Mochis. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Topolobampo, Higuera de Zaragoza, Bagojo, Los Mochis, Ahome, General Juan Jose Rios, La Paz, Guasave and Guamuchil. depth) with epicenter located 103 km NE of Calama. Light shaking of MMI
IV will have felt by the people of Calama and San Pedro de Atacama.
People of Tocopilla, Uyuni, Colchani and Iquique will have felt weak
shaking of MMI IIII.

- Wildfire near Red Lake in northern Minnesota
-More than 38 square miles has been burned by the North Minnie wildfire.
-About 150 people are struggling to control the fire. It is 30 percent contained.
