Strong earthquake in Corinth, Greece

M 5.1 earthquake shakes Corinthian prefecture of Greece today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 4 km from Kiato and 86 km west of Athens. It was 6.2 miles deep.

Following USGS PAGER MAP, strong shaking of MMI VI will have felt by the people of Kiriakion and Ayia Trias. People of Stirion, Ayios Yeoryios, Korini and Levadeia will have felt moderate shaking of MMI V. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Corinth, Amfissa, Chalkida, Lamia and Nafplio.

Greece is one of the world's most seismically active countries. Greece is continuously hit by number of strong earthquakes in the past few years, including major quakes on or near Crete, Rhodes, the Peloponnese, Karpathos, and elsewhere in Greece.

More than 100 people were killed and hundreds of building were collapsed in Athens Earthquake of 1999.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
