Recent Natural Disasters

• Flooding in Andhra Pradesh, India
  -Heavy rainfall caused flooding across Andhra Pradesh, India.
  -Nine people reported to be killed. Four people were killed when a wall collapsed on them at Adityanagar, Miyapur. Five other were killed in a similar incident at Balanagar industrial area.
  -Six fishermen are still missing in the Bay of Bengal area.
  -Flood disaster also affected the low-lying areas in Warangal, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Krishna and East Godavari districts.
  -According to local Met office, more heavy rain is forecast over north coastal Andhra and Telangana during the next 48 hours.

• M 3.1 light shallow earthquake in Switzerland (@ 1 km depth) with epicenter located 39 km S Zurich. It will have well felt by the people of Vitznau, Schwyz and Zurich. Earthquake disasters in Switzerland are rare.

• M 3.4 light shallow earthquake in Bosnia and Herzegovina (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km NE Zenica. It will have well felt by the people of Kakanj and Zenica.

• M 5.4 moderate shallow aftershocks in Philippine Islands Region (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 93 km ENE of San Isidro. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Guiuan, Placer and Tandag.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina,Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins), Cameroon (River Benue), Chad, China (River Mekong, River Huang He and River Brahmaputra), Colombia (River Japura, River Rio Negro and River Magdelena), Ethiopia, Guinea, Honduras, India 9River Ganges), Laos (River Mekong), Mali (River Niger), Mexico, Nigeria (River Benue and River Niger), Panama, Senegal, Sudan and Venezuela (River Orinoco).

• Flash floods in Hale County, Alabama
  -Multiple roads in hale closed due to flooding, mainly along AL hwy 25 ne of Greensboro.
  -Flash floods warning is in effect for Tuscaloosa and Hale County in West Central Alabama.
  Update
  Serious flooding situation across Dallas County including Selma.
• Flash floods in Bicol, Philippines
  -A shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) off Bicol is expected to bring heavy rainfall along with flash floods.
  -LPA is forecast to become a cyclone (Karen) which will bring flash floods and landslides over parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
• Flash floods in Rukum, Nepal
  -Floods in the Bheri river damaged a house and a school building at Athbiskot VDC.
  -Flood also destroyed hectares of agricultural lands.

  -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Leslie was located 780 km N of the Leeward Islands and 940 km S of Bermuda.
  -Swells generated by Leslie could affect portions of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands for another day or so.
• Tropical Depression John
  -As of 03:00 UTC, TD John was located 500 km WSW of the southern tip of Baja California. No threat to land.

  -Heavy rainfall caused flooding across Malta.
  -Malta, officially the Republic of Malta, is a Southern European country.
• Severe thunderstorms in London
  -Severe thunderstorm watch issued for London, Middlesex County, Strathroy, Komoka and Parkhill.
  -Heavy rainfall along with large hail and damaging winds are possible in the area.
• Capitalising on Natural Disasters in Guatemala
  In a country as vulnerable to natural disasters as Guatemala, a “state of public calamity” is frequently declared – to the joy of contractors, which find a good opportunity to line their pockets.
