  • M 4.1 moderate shallow earthquake in Greece (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located just 2 km NW Kamárai. It will have well felt by the people of Aíyion and  Pátrai.
    15:21 UTC (local time 18:21; 2012/09/21 @ epicenter)
  • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in Tarapaca, Chile (@ 99 km depth) with epicenter located 121 km ENE of Iquique. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Arica, Tacna (peru) and Colchani (Bolivia).

  • M 5.0 moderate shallow sea quake in Central Mediterranean Sea (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 124 km W from Chania (Crete). Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Kalamata, Iraklion and Athens.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Leyte, Philippines (@ 36 km depth) with epicenter located 29 km ESE of Tubajon. It will have well felt by the people of Surigao, Placer and Guiuan.
    05:01 UTC (local time Friday, September 21, 2012 at 01:01:59 PM at epicenter)
  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in eastern Iran (@ 26 km depth) with epicenter located 108 km SW of Birjand. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Ravar, Qayen and Tabas.
    03:28 UTC (local time Friday, September 21, 2012 at 06:58 AM @ epicenter)
  • M 4.3 moderate shallow earthquake in New Zealand (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located 15 km east of Christchurch. It will have well felt across Canterbury including Wairarapa and as far south as Dunedin.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Paraguay, Xingu, Rio Teles Pires, Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Japura and Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lukaga), Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flash floods in Prestwick, Scotland
    -Prestwick airport closed after heavy rainfall and flooding in the region. Heavy rain flooded the runway at Prestwick airport.
    -Four flights to the airport were diverted to Edinburgh airport.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Dukono, Semeru, Batu Tara, Manam, Ulawun, Kizimen, Karymsky and Kilauea volcano.
  • Indonesia/Mount Lukon recent volcanic activity
    -Lukon volcano spewed hot smoke and ash thousands of metres into the air.
    -Two strong eruptions recorded. However no evacuation order issued.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Storm Jelawat
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Jelawat (Lawin) was located 575 nm east of Manila, Philippines.
    -The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Philippines has issued Blue Alert.
    -Following NDRRMC, a blue alert means at least 50 percent of government forces should be at their posts at any time.
    Update
    -NDRRMC has upgraded alert status to Red.
    -People of Cagayan Valley, Bicol and Eastern Visayas are said to be high alert and prepare for severe weather conditions today.

  • Tropical Storm Nadine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Nadine was located 305 km SSW of the Azores.
    -A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Azores.
    -Nadine is moving toward the east-southeast near 9 mph.
