  • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea (@ 93 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km S of Kimbe. Populated area is 200 km far from the epicenter.
    20:07 UTC (local time Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 06:07 AM @ epicenter) 
  • M 5.0 moderate shallow earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 37 km depth) with epicenter located 22 km NNE of Miyako. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Yamada, Otsuchi, Kamaishi, Hachinohe and Misawa.
    19:09 UTC (local time Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 04:09 AM @ epicenter) 
  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan (@ 46 km depth) with epicenter located 81 km SSE of Kushiro. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Nemuro, Shibetsu and Obihiro.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Paraguay, Xingu, Rio Teles Pires, Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Japura and Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lukaga), Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flash floods in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico
    -Heavy rainfall flooded the Guayanilla River.
    -Two people reported to be killed.
  • Flash floods in Cambodia
    -Heavy rainfall and flash floods expected in 13 out of 24 provinces in Cambodia.
    -Severe weather will hit Cambodia for another week.
    -Floods are common in Cambodia in monsoon season between August and October.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Dukono, Semeru, Batu Tara, Manam, Ulawun, Kizimen, Karymsky and Kilauea volcano.
  • Indonesia/Mount Gamala recent volcanic activity
    -Slow-moving red lava clearly visible at mount Gamalama. However no evacuation order issued.
    -Last year, Gamala eruption killed four people.
  • Philippines/Mayon and Taal recent volcanic activity
    -Volcanic earthquake detected in both Mayon and Taal.
    -The Mayon and Taal volcanoes are on Alert Level 1 currently.

  • Mexico/Popocatépetl recent volcanic activity
    -
    More than 120 small explosion recorded at Popocatepetl volcano during last 24 hours.
    -Ashes spewed about 1 km above the crater of the volcano and dispersed several kilometers to the northeast. Current alert level 2.

  • Tropical Storm Nadine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Nadine was located 1250 km WSW of the Azores.
    -Nadine is moving toward the east-northeast near 18 mph. No threat to land.
  • Tropical Depression Kristy
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TD Kristy was located 980 km WNW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -The depression is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph. No threat to land.
  • Tropical Storm Lane
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Lane was located 1885 km WSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Lane is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph. No threat to land.
  • Typhoon Sanba
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Sanba was located 75 nm southwest of Pusan, south Korea.
