  • Landslide and flooding in Yen Bai, Vietnam
    -Twenty nine killed and four others reported to be missing in landslide and flooding in northern and central Vietnam.
    -Flooding and landslide caused by heavy rainfall made an estimated $22 million in damage to rice crops and infrastructure.
    -Floods killed a total of 66 and displaced about 15,000 families in 2008. Flooding in Hanoi and Red River Delta in 1971 is the deadliest flood in Vietnam history which killed 1,00,000 people!

  • Forest fire in British Columbia, Canada
    -About 1,550 residents of Peachland, British Columbia evacuated due to forest fire near the Okanagan town.
    -A state of emergency declared  after the Trepanier Forest Fire which has burned 170 hectares so far.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake Offshore El Salvador (@ 25 km depth) with epicenter located 103 km S of Puerto El Triunfo. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Usulutan, San Rafael Oriente and Santiago de Maria.

  • M 3.2 weak shallow earthquake near the Southeast Coast of Australia with epicenter located 52 km E of Hawks Nest. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Newcastle, Sydney, Kurri Kurri, Port Stephens, Forster and Raymond Terrace.

  • M 4.5 moderate deep earthquake in Tarapaca, Chile (@ 123 km depth) with epicenter located 123 km E of Iquique. It will have feintly felt by the people of Colchani, Uyuni and Tocopilla.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya (Ahero Bridge), Laos (Mekong), Madagascar, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Benue), Paraguay (Parana), Panama, Peru (Ucayali), Senegal, United States (Colorado and Ohio) and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flash floods in Pakistan
    -At least 78 people died in recent flash floods in Pakistan.
    -Heavy rainfall and flooding from last three days destroyed more than 1,600 houses across states of Punjab and North West Frontier of pakistan.
    -Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province reported to be worst hit. A state of emergency has been declared in the Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts of the Punjab province.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Storm Leslie
    -As of 15:00 UTC, TS Leslie was located 1225 km SSW of Cape Race Newfoundland. It is currently heading for Newfoundland with little change in strength.
    -A Tropical Storm Warning is being issued by Environment Canada for southeastern Newfoundland from Indian Harbor to Triton.
    Update
    Following US National Hurricane Center, Leslie is forecast to strike Canada as a tropical storm at about 09:00 GMT on 11 September.
  • Hurricane Michael
    -As of 15:00 UTC, hurricane Michael was located 1805 km W of the Azores.
    -Michael is a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale. No threat to land.


Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Dayton, Nevada
    -Wildfire burned at least 800 acres southeast of Dayton in Northern Nevada.
    -Two helicopters, five air tankers, two water tenders, four hand crews and five fire engines are struggling to control the fire.
  • Wildfire in Siberia, Russia
    -Wildfire burned 62 hectares in the Verkhneketsky district of the Tomsk region.
    -Twelve different forest fires disasters reported across the country.

    -Thunderstorms, lightning along with hail storm reported in  Hamilton and around the Waikato.
