  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake Off the Coast of Venezuela (@ 51 km depth) with epicenter located 146 km NNE from Caracas.   • M 3.3 weak shallow earthquake in Baja California, Mexico (@ 7 km depth) with epicenter located 21 km SSW from Guadalupe Victoria. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of San Luis Río Colorado, San Luis and Redondo Beach.

  • M 5.5 moderate earthquake in Southern Sumatra, Indonesia (@ 77 km depth) with epicenter located 91 km WNW of Kuripan. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Pagaralam, Lahat, Tanjungagung, Bengkulu, Baturaja, Curup, Lubuklinggau, Perabumulih, Kotabumi and Palembang. M 6.3 very strong earthquake in Sulawesi, Indonesia killed six people some days ago.

  • M 4.2 light earthquake in Halmahera, Indonesia (@ 48 km depth) with epicenter located 138 km NE of Tobelo. It will have faintly felt by the people of Ternate.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia, Botsawana (Savuti channel), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins), Chad, China (River Mekong, River Huang He and River Brahmaputra), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Mali, New Zealand, Peru (River Rio Maranon), Sudan, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela (River Orinoco).
  • Flash floods in Mesa, Arizona
    -Powerful thunderstorm collapsed the roof a mobile house in Mesa.
    -Heavy rainfall along with flash floods expected for east central Maricopa County including the communities of East Mesa, Mesa and Gilbert.
  • Flash floods in Selangor, Malaysia
    -More than 200 families affected due to flash floods in Kampung Sungai Pinang Bandar area.
    -Following the local residents, the village was flooded lastly about 18 years ago.
  • Flash floods in Jacksonville, Florida
    -Heavy rains caused flooding in many parts, including the Ortega/Venetia area of florida.
    -Ortega was among the hardest hit.
  • Flash floods in Nigeria
    -The Federal Ministry of Environment has predicted a downpour and flooding between August 20 and August 27, in 23 states.

Erupting Volcanoes: Popocatepetl, Fuego, Tungurahua, Villarrica, Etna, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doinyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Semeru, Batu Tara, Dukono, Manam, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kilauea and Kizimen volcano.
  • Alaska/Cleveland recent volcanic activity
    -A low-level ash cloud reported from Cleveland volcano.
    -Follwoing Alaska Volcano Observatory, additional eruptions are still possible with little warning, and ash clouds 20,000 feet above sea level are possible.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Typhoon Tembin
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Typhoon Tembin was located 280 nm southeast of Taipei, Taiwan.
    -Taiwan has issued sea warning for Typhoon Tembin.
    -Following Taiwan Weather Buereu, residents of Yilan, Hualien and Taitung counties on the eastern coast should stay alert because the typhoon is likely to make landfall in one of those three counties. Click for updates news on Typhoon Tembin.
  • Typhoon Bolaven
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Typhoon Bolaven was located 385 nm south-southwest of iwo to, Japan.
    -Bolaven is moving toward west-northwest at 5mph.
    -Bolaven is expected to intensify and become a typhoon within the next 24 hours.
  • Tropical Depression Nine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TD Nine was located 930 km E of Guadeloupe.
    -A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe and the surrounding islands, St. Martin, St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua, Montserrat, Anguilla, Barbuda, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.
    -The depression is moving toward the west near 20 mp and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today.
    Update
    Tropical Depression 9 is expected to become Tropical Storm Isaac later today which may cause heavy rainfall and flooding across The Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Cuba.

Natural Disaster News

  • Wildfire in Winchester, California
    -Wildfire on the cross section of Vista Road and Rawson Road has burned 250 acres.
    -About 220 firefighters, four air tankers, four helicopters, two water tenders and four bulldozers are struggling to control the blaze.
    Update
    -At approximately 8 p.m. (local time), the fire in Winchester is 100 percent contained which burned around 500 acres.
    -Two firefighters reported to be injured
