Recent Natural Disasters
- Landslides in Himachal Pradesh, India
-Heavy rainfall caused landslides across several parts of Himachal Pradesh. Two evacuated houses collapsed in Totu area of Shimla following heavy rainfall.
-The Kullu-Manali-Rohtang highway was blocked for several hours due to landslides.
-Hundreds of tourists remained stranded in the tribal Kaza area as landslides blocked the roads.
-The Jammu-Pathankot train was terminated at Guler as the railway tracks between Guler and Jogindernagar was blocked due to landslides.
-Three days ago, four persons were killed and two others injured following heavy landslides in the Karanprayag area of Chamoli district.
-The local MET office has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh of India during the next 48 hours.

- M 4.4 light earthquake Offshore Guatemala (@ 49 km depth) with epicenter located 72 km S of Puerto San Jose. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of La Gomera, Masagua and Chiquimulilla.
15:05 UTC (local time Monday, August 20, 2012 at 09:05 AM @ epicenter) - M 5.0 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 39 km depth) with epicenter located just 9 km WSW of Sawara. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Narita, Katori-shi, Inashiki, Abiko, Ageo, Ami, Asahi, Chiba, Funabashi, Hokota, Kamagaya, Ishioka, Tsuchiura and Togane. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Yokohama and capital Tokyo.
Since 1900, three great earthquakes occurred off Japan and three north of Hokkaido.
11:42 UTC (local time Monday, August 20, 2012 at 08:42 PM @ epicenter) - M 3.7 light shallow earthquake in Southern Iran (@ 19 km depth) with epicenter located 48 km NW Jiroft. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Baft.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia, Botsawana (Savuti channel), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins), Chad, China (River Huang He and River Brahmaputra), Honduras, India, Nyanmar (River Salween), New Zealand, Nigeria, Sudan, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela (River Orinoco).
- Flooding and landslides in Bhojpur, Nepal
-A landslide swept away four houses at Gothe Bazaar in Bhojpur.
-Two people reported to be injured.
-Flooding and landslide also swept away a primary school.

-Heavy rainfall caused flooding and traffic jam especially on the North-South Expressway (Plus).

-People of Banos region of Ecuador evacuated due to recent volcanic activities in Tungurahua.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
- Hurricane Gordon
-As of 01:00 UTC, Hurricane Gordon was located 70 km WSW of Santa Maria island in the Azores.
-A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the eastern Azores.
-Gordon is moving toward the east-northeast near 20 mph. Gordon is expected to produce total rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches over the central and eastern Azores.
Update
Following the head of the Azores Civil Protection Service, Pedro Carvalho, there were no reports of significant damage as Gordon passed by Santa Maria and Sao Miguel.It just caused localized flooding. - Typhoon Tembin
