Recent Natural Disasters
- Typhoon Kai-Tak in Philippines
-At least six people killed due to strong winds caused by Typhoon Kai-Tak (local name Helen).
-As of 4 a.m., Helen was located 290 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, moving west-northwest at 17 kph. It is expected to be out of the Philippine territory by afternoon.
-At least six flights to Cagayan and Isabela were canceled at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.
-Cloudy to rainy weather was expected until Friday in Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon.
-Last week, torrential rains submerged 80 percent of the capital Manila.
Update
The Hong Kong Observatory (HK's weather bureau) has issued Standby Signal 1 warning of a nearby cyclone. There can be delay in the flights.

Recent natural disasters in Philippines - Wildfire in Nesebar and Pomorie area of Bulgaria
-Wildfire emergency declared in southern Bulgarian Black Sea resorts of Nesebar and Pomorie just south of Sunny Beach.
-Over 150 firefighters and military servicemen are struggling to control the blaze.
-Some 2,500 acres of of pine and deciduous forests burned. However there is no danger for nearby settlements and resorts.

20:30 UTC (local time 22:30; 2012/08/16 @ epicenter) - M 4.5 moderate shallow aftershocks in Northwestern Iran (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 63 km NE Tabriz. M 6.4 quake killed more than 306 people in Iran. Click for detail report on Iran quake.
17:14 UTC (local time 20:44; 2012/08/16 @ epicenter) - M 3.7 weak earthquake in Island of Hawaii, Hawaii (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km S from Volcano. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Volcano, Mountain View, Hilo, Holualoa, Keaau, Kailua-Kona and Kalaoa.
08:43 UTC (local time Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:43 PM @ epicenter) - M 2.9 weak shallow earthquake in Bulgaria (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 3 km NW Batanovci. It will have well felt by the people of Pernik and Sofia.

-Heavy flooding reported in Brooklyn and Queens area of New York city.
-Flash flood warnings have been issued until 5:30pm today for Brooklyn and Queens amid severe thunderstorms.

- Russia/Ivan the Terrible recent volcanic activity
-Ash fall reported from Ivan the Terrible volcano which is located on the sparsely populated island of Iturup to the south of the Kuril Islands.
-Officials said that the volcano had released no lava and that it erupts regularly.
-Ivan Groznyy also erupted in 1968, 1973, and 1989, but none of the eruptions threatened life nearby.

-As of 01:00 UTC, Typhoon Kai-Tak was located 245 nm southeast of Hong Kong.
-Six people were killed due to strong winds caused by Typhoon Kai-Tak.

-As of 09:00 UTC, TS Gordon was located 940 km E of Bermuda and 2600 km W of the Azores.
-Gordon is moving toward the north-northeast near 14 mph.
-The U.S. National Hurricane Center says some strengthening is forecast over the next two days and Gordon could become a hurricane over the weekend. - Tropical Depression Hector
-As of 01:00 UTC, TD Hector was located 425 km W of Socorro island and 720 km SW of the southern tip of Baja California.
-The depression is moving toward the north near 7 mph.

-Nearly 1,500 firefighters are battling the Vallecito Complex Fires from the ground and the air.
-Residents in Ranchita were under mandatory evacuation orders.
