Recent Natural Disasters

  • Heavy flooding in Metro Manila, PhilippinesManila_flood_recent_natural_disasters

    -Several Cebu Pacific flights to and from Naga and Busuanga cancelled due to bad weather.
    -About 64 mm rainfall observed at Port Area, Manila for the past four hours. Serious flooding is expected in Metro Manila early Tuesday due to heavy rains.
    -The City government suspended all afternoon classes at the elementary and high school levels for today in Makati, Parañaque, Pasay, Manila, Quezon, Taguig, Valenzuela, Pasig, Batangas province and Rizal province.
    -Several roads in Metro Manila are experiencing heavy traffic jams due to bad weather.
    -A prevailing low pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring heavy rainfall over southern Luzon including capital Manila.

  • M 6.2 strong deep earthquake Off West Coast of the North Island, New Zealand (@ 236 km depth) with epicenter located 57 km SSW of Opunake. Weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Opunake, Hawera, Patea, Eltham, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Nelson, Wellington, Lower Hutt, Hamilton and Tauranga.

    Tremors were widely felt across New Zealand (common with earthquake at greater depth). It was well felt in Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington, Taranaki, Manawatu-Wanganui, Gisborne, HawkeÊ¿s Bay, West Coast, Taranaki, Wellington, Waikato, Auckland, Tasman, Otago, Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand including Blenheim, Ashburton, Carterton, Christchurch, Culverden, Egmont Village, Feilding, Foxton, Gisborne, Harihari, Hastings, Inglewood, Kapiti, Kawhia, Levin, Lower Hutt, Masterton, Manukau, Motueka, Murchison, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Okato, Opotiki, Otaki, Otane, Otorohanga, Palmerston North, Picton, Porirua, Upper Hutt, Wanganui and Wellington cities. 
  • M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Honshu, Japan (@ 80 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km E Tateyama. It will have well felt by the people of Kisarazu  and Yokohama.

    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in a number of areas of the city.
    -Flooding also affect Auckland Zoo.
  • Flooding in Owensboro, Kentucky
    -Some streets in Owensboro reported to be partially closed due to flooding.
    -However no damage or injury reported so far.
  • Flooding in Hanoi, Vietnam
    -Heavy rainstorms with flash floods and landslides forecast to hit northern and central mountainous provinces of Vietnam.
  • Flooding in Lagos, Nigeria
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Surulere, Ikorodu Road, Ejigbo, Lagos Island and Ajah.

    -A state of emergency was declared in Duluth after the major flood.

    -Wildfire reported in Wasco County, northwest of Dalles.
    -Fire is burning close to the homes.
