Recent Natural Disasters

• Forest fire in Valencia, Spain
  

  

  A helicopter dropping water through the hills in Yatova, Spain

  -Two thousands people evacuated after worst forest fure in Valencia.
  -Wildfires destroyed 45,000 hectares of land around 30km to the west of Valencia.
  -Incident started three days ago in the regions of Andilla and Cortes de Pallas in the east coast of Spain.
  -Valencia forest fire is believed to be the biggest fire to hit the area over the past two decades.
  -Valencia is the third largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona.
  Update
  -Two helicopters crashed in Spanish forest fire.
  -One pilot reported to be killed.
  -Around 2,000 inhabitants have been evacuated from the fire zone.
• Flooding in George Town, Malaysia
  -Several major roads in George Town reported to be flooded caused after continuous heavy rainfall for more than two hours.
  -Some houses damaged in Jalan P. Ramlee.
  -Jalan P. Ramlee, part of Jalan Perak, Jalan Logan, Kampung Makam, Jalan Sungai Pinang, Jalan Anson and Jalan Patani are the area mainly affected by flood.
  -No major damage or injury reported so far.

• M 5.7 strong shallow earthquake in Central Peru (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 32 km SSE of Santiago. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Rio Grande, Palpa, Los Aquijes, Ica and Hacienda Vista Alegre. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Pisco, Chincha Alta, Imperial, Huancavelica and Ayacucho.

• M 3.0 weak shallow earthquake in Northern Italy (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km NE Finale emilia. Just  a weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Ferrara.

• M 2.7 weak shallow earthquake in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (@ 4 km depth) with epicenter located just 2 km SW from Nicoma Park. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Midwest City, Spencer, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

• M 3.7 light shallow earthquake in Northern Iran (@ 6 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km NW Damavand. Weak shaking will have even felt in capital Tehran.

Volcanic Activity List

• Colombia/Nevado del Ruiz recent volcanic activity
  -Alert level for Nevado del Ruiz volcano downgraded. Airports in the area have resumed operations.
  -The volcano in western Colombia spewed smoke and ash on Saturday. No damage or injury reported.

Flooding List

• Flooding in Assam, India
  -Death toll has risen to 77. Six people are still reported to be missing.
  -The Brahmaputra and the Kapili rivers are flowing above the danger mark at various places.
  -Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will visit the flood affected area today.
• Storms and flooding in Chicago
  -The storms hit Kane and Kendall counties.
  -Several trains service on the Union Pacific/Northwest Line were suspended due to bad weather.
  -About 93,000 customers are still without power in the Chicago area, mainly in DuPage County.

Tropical Cyclone List

• Low pressure area (LPA) in Philippines
  -As of 2:00 a.m. local time, the LPA was located 120 kilometers northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
  -Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

  -A state of drought emergency declared in Nebraska.
  -Drought is a common occurrence in Nebraska.
  
• Wildfire in Dalles, United States
  -Wildfire reported in Wasco County, northwest of Dalles.
  -Fire is burning close to the homes.
• Tornado in Central North Carolina
  -Tornado Warning issued for East Central Sampson County in Central North Carolina.
  -National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated a Tornado 7 miles North of Turkey or 8 miles Northeast of Clinton moving East at 20 Mph.
