M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake recorded in Central Peru (@ 10 km depth) today with epicenter located 66 km E of Lima. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Nicolás de pierola, Chosica and Lima. Click here if you felt this earthquake

Following local medias, Arequipa’s phone lines were temporarily down after the quake.
Arequipa is the capital city of the Arequipa Region in southern Peru.

M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes Southern Peru today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was centered Corrales, about 117 km (72 miles) WNW of Arequipa. It was 62.0 miles deep.

Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Lluta, Orcopampa, Camana, Yura, Chivay, Pucara and Arequipa. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Moquegua, Abancay, Puno and Cusco

The largest earthquake along the coast of Peru was a magnitude 9 that occurred in 1868. It produced a tsunami that killed several thousand people along the South American coast and also caused damage in Hawaii.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
