M 5.9 strong deep earthquake shakes Fiji region this Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was located 149 km NW Nuku'alofa. It was 200 km deep. According to USGS Pager Map, just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Nuku`alofa, Havelu, Vaini, `Ohonua and Pangai.
Due to its great depth, the shaking will be less. Just weak shaking will be felt in coastal area.
The eastern margin of the Australia plate is one of the most sesimically active areas of the world due to high rates of convergence between the Australia and Pacific plates.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
