Recent Natural Disasters

  • Flooding in Lafia, Nigeria

    Damage caused by Flood at Ejigbo; Click for more flood photos
    -Six students killed in flash floods in Lafia. They were from primary school in Tudun Kauri  of Nasarawa State.
    -Two students are still missing in Tudun Jauri and various other sections of Lafia.
    -Several houses flooded at Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. More than 50 houses flooded in Aboru area of Agbado Oke-Odo.
    -Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Yaba, Surulere, Gbagada, Oworonshoki, Mafoluku Oshodi, Iyana-Ejigbo, Isheri-Osun, Berger/Alagbole Road, Ajegunle Ikorodu Road, Ogijo, and Odogunyan. are the cities badly affected by flood.
    -Many roads in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki were flooded.
  • Landslide in Tanahun, Nepal
    -Seven people reported to be killed due to landslide at Jamune VDC-1 of Tanahun district.
    -They died when wall of their house collapsed.
    -Still heavy rainfall and thunderstorms forecast today.

  • M 3.6 light very shallow earthquake in Serbia (@ 1 km depth) with epicenter located 8 km SW Velika plana. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Smederevska Palanka, Kragujevac and Belgrade. Magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Serbia in 2010 killed two people . It was felt across the country, including the capital, Belgrade.

  • M 6.3 very strong shallow earthquake in Northern Xinjiang, China (@ 18 km depth) with epicenter located 99 km S of Dushanzi. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Shihezi, Changji, Korla, Urumqi and Kuqa. Weak shaking will have even felt in parts of Kazakhstan.

  • M 5.2 moderate earthquake Offshore Chiapas, Mexico (@ 75 km depth) with epicenter located 51 km SW of Acapetagua. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Mapastepec, Huixtla, Tapachula of Mexico and Huehuetenango, Panajachel, Quetzaltenango, San Pedro la Laguna, Santa Cruz la Laguna city of Guatemala.

  • M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Tajikistan (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km WNW of Vose. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kulob, Chubek and Danghara.

  • Flash floods in Maui, Hawaii
    -Around 46 people rescued after flooding in Waihee stream in Maui.
    -Following Maui fire officials, just minor injury occurred.

Tropical Cyclone List

  • Tropical Storm Doksuri
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Tropical storm 07w (doksuri) was located approximately 212 nm southeast of Hong Kong.
    -Chinese authorities have urged local departments to make preparations in coastal provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan for the approaching tropical storm Doksuri.
    -Doksuri is expected to continue tracking west and make landfall near Hong Kong tomorrow. Click for detail report on tropical storm Doksuri.

    -Three people reported to be missing in a landslide in Hatiya-2 of Baglung district.
    -Different road and fields also reported to be swept away by landslide.
