Recent Natural Disasters
  •  Flooding in Midlands, England

    Flood water in Leicestershire: Source BBC
    -One person killed in flooding in Shropshir, England. Body was found in a stream in Bitterley near Ludlow.
    -Six people were rescued in south Shropshire from their cars by the fire service.
    -Haistorms also reported in the East Midlands.
    -Both main rail lines between Scotland and England reported to be blocked by landslides.
    - Dozens of schools in the West Midlands were closed due to storms and flash floods.
    -Currently there are 48 flood alerts across the Midlands, North East and North West.
    -The Environment Agency has also issued a Flood Alert for the River Tyne from Hexham to Wylam and its tributaries.

  • M 4.6 moderate deep earthquake in La Rioja, Argentina (@ 132 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km SW of Chepes. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Chamical, Caucete, San Martin, Cordoba and San juan.

  • M 5.2 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 42 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km NE of Iwaki. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Namie, Kitaibaraki, Funehiki, Narita, Sendai, Shirakawa, Tokai, Tsuchiura, Tsukuba, Yachimata and Tokyo.

Volcanic Activity List

  • Canary Islands (Spain)/El Hierro recent volcanic activity
    -Around 750 earthquakes recorded around El Hierro within last two days.
    -The village of La Restinga was evacuated due to similar seismic activities in 2011.

Flooding List

  • Flash floods in Manipur, India
    -At least 40 houses reported to be flooded in Jiribam in Imphal district.
    -Four people reported to be missing in Jiri river in Jiribam.
    -More than 1,300 floods affected victims are taking shaelter at the Jiribam Junior High School.
    -Manipur is bounded by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west.

Tropical Cyclone List

  • Tropical Storm Doksuri
    -As of 05:00 UTC, Tropical storm 07w (doksuri) was located approximately 335 nm north of Manila, Philippines.
    -Storm signal number 1 issued in Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Mt Province of Philippines. Doksuri (local name: Dindo) is the fourth weather disturbance to hit Philippines this year.
    -Following Taiwan Weather Bureau, Doksuri is expected to bring significant rainfall to Pingtung and Taitung counties. Click for detail report on tropical storm Doksuri.

  • Mudslide in Sichuan, China
    -About 40 workers reported to be missing in mudlside in Sichuan province.
    -Mudslide disaster occurred in Ningnan county at the construction site of the Baihetan hydroelectric dam.
  • Dust storms in Arizona, United States
    -Huge dust storm estimated to be 3,000-foot high reported in Great Phoenix region (Mainly Chandler and Eloy) of Arizona.
    -The visibility was reduced to zero in some areas.
  • Wildfire in Colorado
    -According to Colorado Springs officials, hundreds of homes have been destroyed by wildfire in Colorado.
    -Wildfire caused evacuations in Montana and Utah and forced the closure of a portion of Zion National Park.
  • Wildfire in Wood Hollow, Utah
    -Evacuation order issued due to wildfire for the people of Birdseye area.
    -Fire is burning in the boundary between Sanpete and Utah counties.
