  • Extreme Landslide in eastern Uganda

    -Thirty people killed in a landslide in eastern Uganda on the slopes of Mount Elgon.
    -Heavy rain triggered a mudslide in Uganda. Still 109 people reported to be missing.
    -Around 400,000 people from the 6 districts of Bududa Mbale, Sironko, Manafwa, Kapchorwa and Bukwo are going to be shifted to Kiryandongo and other areas.
    -The affected area lies in Bududa district on mount Elgon close to the Kenyan border.

  • Heavy storms and flooding in Florida
    -A state of emergency declared for for most of the Gulf Coast because of Tropical Storm Debby.
    -Tropical storm warning issued for the Florida Panhandle on down through the central west coast.
    -Storm has left an estimated 35 000 people without power across Florida.
    -A six-kilometre bridge spanning Tampa Bay that connects the city of St Petersburg with the Bradenton area reported to be closed.

    Flash flood warning issued for Northeastern Bradford, baker, Columbia, Hamilton, Suwannee Union, Southern Charlton, Duval and Nassau county across Florida and Georgia.

  • M 4.2 light shallow earthquake in Cyprus region (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 88 km W Polis. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Pafos  and Alanya.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Maule, Chile (@ 73 km depth) with epicenter just 5 km NE of San Clemente. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Talca, San Javier, Linares and Curico.

  • M 3.3 weak shallow earthquake in Southern California with epicenter located 8 km SSE from Yucca Valley. It will have well felt by the people of Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, Desert Hot Springs, Morongo Valley, Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms and Temecula.

  • M 4.4 light earthquake in Flores Region, Indonesia (@ 80 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km N of Kembo. It will have well felt by the people of Ruteng, Ende, Labuhanbajo and Bima.

  • Canary Islands, Spain/El Hierro recent volcanic activity
    -More than 200 earthquakes of M1.5 or more recorded in canary islands in two days.
    -The largest earthquake measured 3.1 magnitude on the Richter scale on Islands of El Hierro.
    -Harmonic volcanic tremor has appeared again which is thought to be caused by moving magma.

Flooding List

  • Flooding in Sicamous, British Columbia
    -One killed and more than 700 evacuated after flooding in British Columbia.
    -An evacuation alert is in effect for several properties in the area along Highway 33.

Tropical Cyclone List

  • Tropical Storm Debby
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Debby was located 350 km SSE of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
    -A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect forthe coast of Louisiana from the mouth of the Pearl River westward to Morgan City.
    -Debby is expected to produce rain accumulations of 3 to 6 inches along the Gulf Coast from southern Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
    -According to NOAA, isolated tornadoes are possible over portions of the west-central and southwestern Florida Peninsula tonight and Sunday. Click for detail report on Tropical storm Debby.
  • Tropical depression Doksuri
    -Tropical depression Doksuri is forecast to strike Hong Kong as a tropical storm at about 04:00 GMT on 1 July.

Natural Disaster News

  • Heavy rainfall and Landslides in China
    -More than 17,000 people are forced to evacuate due to heavy rainfall and landlides in Zhejiang province.
    -Following the weather office, more rain and storms are expected in Zhejiang, Fujian and Anhui provinces in south China, as well as Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces in the south-west over the next three days.
  • Wildfire in Helena, Montana
    -At least three houses destroyed by a wildfire near Helena.
    -About 200 homes north of Helena evacuated because of the Corral Fire.
    -Fire has burned about 700 acres so far.
