Recent Natural Disasters

  • Flooding in China


    -16 people died in flooding in southern Guangxi Zhuang and northern Inner Mongolia autonomous region of China.
    -Floods destroyed thousands of houses, forcing nearly 450,000 people to leave their homes. Around $ 20 million damage estimated.
    -More heavy rainfall is forecast to hit parts of Guangxi on today mainly the provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian and Inner Mongolia.
    -Photo above by Xinhua shows the flooded houses in Huilong Village of Zhongshan County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
  •  Tornado in Florida
    -One killed in tornado in Florida.
    -Woman was found dead in Highlands County inside a home in Venus, some 120 miles south of Orlando.
    -Two twisters destroyed four homes in the southern part of the county.

  • M 2.7 rare earthquake in Arizona (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 15 km NNW of Paulden. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Paulden, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley and Prescott. In 1976 there was M 4.9 earthquake in Chino Valley, about 100 miles north of Phoenix.

  • M 5.0 moderate shallow earthquake in Western Turkey (@ 48 km depth) today with epicenter located 35 km S Fethiye. Light to weak shaking will have felt as far as Rhodes (Greece), Denizli, Izmir, Marmaris, OEluedeniz, Dalaman, Sarigerme and Dubai.

    Maria Jonker from Dalyan, Mugla, Turkey: Felt and saw terrace moving, while sitting there around 16:00 pm.
  • M 2.9 weak shallow earthquake in canary Islands, Spain with epicenter located 14 km S Santa cruz de tenerife. It will have well felt by the people of Candelária and Santa cruz.

  • M 3.4 light shallow earthquake in Northern California (@ 6 km depth) with epicenter located 15 km N from Morgan Hill. It will have well felt by the people of  Mount Hamilton, San Jose, Watsonville, Soquel, Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, Morgan Hill, Milpitas, Felton, Campbell, Boulder Creek, Aptos, Fremont, San Mateo, San Francisco, Redwood City, Mountain View, Burlingame, San Martin, Alum Rock and San Jose City Hall.

  • M 3.3 weak shallow earthquake in Albania (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located just 7 km NE Tirana. It will have well felt by the people of Tirana and  Kamze.

  • M 3.2 weak shallow earthquake in Western Montana (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 34 km NE from Seeley Lake. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Missoula, Ronan, Helena, Kalispell, Ovando and Lincoln.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake Offshore Guatemala (@ 44 km depth) with epicenter located 70 km S Nueva concepcion.Weak shaking will have felt as far as Escuintla.

    Update
    M 4.6 another moderate earthquake after 11 hours in Guatemala with epicenter located just 7 km S of Pasaco. Light shaking will have felt by the people of Chiquimulilla, Jalpatagua and Oratorio.

Flooding List

  • Flooding in Duluth, Minnesota
    -Flood killed 14 animals of the Lake Superior Zoo
    -Major roads have opened again, but some secondary roads are still closed..
    -Teams with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are heading to the Northland to begin assessing the damage. FEMA will pay 75 percent of the rebuilding costs. Click for detail report on Duluth floods.

Tropical Cyclone List

  • Tropical Storm Debby
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Debby was located 180 km SSW of Apalachicola Florida and 325 km ESE of the mouth of the Mississippi River.
    -A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Mississippi-Alabama border eastward to the Suwannee River Florida and a tropical storm watch is in effect for south of the Suwannee River to Englewood Florida.
    -Debby is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 10 to 15 inches over the Florida Panhandle and northern Florida
    -According to NOAA, a few tornadoes are possible tonight and Monday across the eastern Florida Panhandle and western and central portions of the Florida Peninsula. Click for detail report on Tropical storm Debby.

    -Red alert issued to the villagers of Kaslo after a mudslide on Josephine Creek.
    -The dam on Kemp Creek damaged.
    -The Village of Kaslo is the oldest incorporated community in the Kootenays, and is located 70 kilometers north of Nelson.
  • Wildfire in Pony, Montana
    -Wildfire reported in North Meadow Creek in Madison County, Montana near the town of Pony.
    -Pony is an unincorporated community in northeastern Madison County, Montana, United States on the eastern edge of the Tobacco Root Mountains.
  • Wildfires in Community of La Puebla, Santa Fe County, New Mexico
    -Two wildfires reported in the northern Santa Fe County community of La Puebla.
    -Several people evacuated from La Puebla and Santa Fe County.
