Recent Natural Disasters
  • Heavy storms in Bajura, Nepal
    -Four killed and other four injured in a windstorm in Bajura district of far western Nepal.
    -They were killed after their houses collapsed following strong wind and heavy rainfall at Piapaldadi of Badhu VDC in Bajura district.
    -The injured people are taking treatment at Navin Medical in Kolti.
    -Dozens of houes reported to be damaged. The storm has also damaged the local primary health post and medicines stored there.
    -Nepal Police and Nepal Army personnel and locals are carrying out rescue.

  • M 5.4 moderate shallow earthquake in Southern Xinjiang, China 9@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 73 km WNW of Kashi. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Kashi, Karakul (Tajikistan) and Sary-Tash (Kyrgyzstan).

  • M 2.5 minor earthquake in Shropshire, England (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter close to Ludlow. Weak tremors will have felt around Ludlow and Church Stretton. Ludlow is a market town in Shropshire, England close to the Welsh border and in the Welsh Marches. 
  • M 3.4 aftershocks in Northern Italy (@ 20 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km N Modena. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Modena and Verono.   • M 4.8 moderate earthquake Off the Coast of Pakistan (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 216 km SE of Chabahar (Iran). No fewer than four major tectonic plates (Arabia, Eurasia, India, Africa) and one micro-plate (Antatolia) are responsible for seismicity in this region.

  • M 5.2 moderate earthquake near the South Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 53 km depth) with epicenter located 35 km NNE of Tokyo.   • M 5.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Papua, Indonesia (@ 21 km depth) with epicenter located 91 km W of Manokwari. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Manokwari. There have been nine M 7.5+ earthquakes recorded from the Kai Islands to Sumba since 1900. The largest was the great Banda Sea earthquake of 1938 (M8.5) an intermediate depth thrust faulting event that did not cause significant loss of life.

  • Mexico/Popocatepetl recent volcanic activity
    -During the night light glow was observed on the volcano's crater. At the time of this report is the diffuse gas plume, rises between 100 and 300 m above the crater rim.
    -The volcanic alert level remains at Phase 3 Yellow.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in South Florida
    -Heavy storms reported in South Florida.
    -Rainfall also affected Broward and North Miami-Dade.
    -More rainfall and flooding is forecast in South Florida today.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Storm Ambo (Mawar)
    -Bicol, Aurora and Isabela under storm signal no. 1.
    -Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under signal no. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.
    -More than 500 passengers were stranded in three Bicol ports on Friday when the Philippine Coast Guard suspended maritime operations in the ports of Virac and San Andres in Catanduanes and Tabaco in Albay.
    -Estimated rainfall amount is from 15-25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Tropical Storm. Click for detail update report on this tropical storm Ambo (Mawar).

  • Tornado warning for Loudoun County, Virginia
    -Tornado warning issued for Western Montgomery County in Central Maryland and Eastern Loudoun county in Northern Virginia.
    -National weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Brambleto.

    Update
    -The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Eastern Frederick, Northern Montgomery, Southern Carroll and Northwestern Howard counties.
    -Weather Forecast: Showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Low around 61. South wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
