Recent Natural Disasters
- Cyclone in Tinsukia, Assam, India
-Three killed after cyclone and heavy hailstorms hit Tinsukia district of Assam.
-A nine years old child killed in Majbari village of Kakopathar after a big tree fall over her. Another 55 years old woman died in Sonari Gaon, Dhola in similar incident. Third incident happened in Tinsukia districts where thunderstorm killed a small girl.

-About 3,000 people are displaced. Homeless people are taking shelter in neighbor houses, nearby schools and churches.
-Several other villages like Talap, Dangri, Tezipathar, Katorbasti, Borali, Maithong, Laina, Khobang, Dhola, Haikhati, Ghutung Gaon, Kherbari, Samguri, Kakopathar, Dirak in Tinsukia district are also reported to be affected. Detail report yet to come.
-Several residential houses, schools, buildings reported to be damaged by the cyclone.
-Cyclone is one of the most recurring natural disasters in India.

10:34 UTC (local time 13:34; 2012/04/25 @ epicenter) - M 5.7 strong shallow harmless sea quake in Nicobar Islands, India region (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter located 146 km NE of Mohean. About 35,000 people will have felt light shaking of MMI IV.
07:42 UTC (Local time Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 01:42 PM @ epicenter) - M 5.0 moderate deep earthquake in Samar, Philippines (@ 123 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km E Dapdap. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Borongan, Tacloban (Leyte), Calbayog (Samar) region of Philippines.
06:55 UTC (Local time Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 02:55 PM @ epicenter) - M 3.1 weak very shallow earthquake in Cyprus region (@ 1 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km SW Pissouri. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Pafos and Lemesos.
05:25 UTC (Local time 08:23; 2012/04/25 @ epicenter) - M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Northern Algeria (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 2 km S Bani h'awa. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Tanas, Chlef, Affreville, Algiers, Birkhadem, Hadjout, as-Sūmaʿah city of Algeria.

-About 50 acres of Pine trees burned in a fire in Manawatu region.
-Manawatu-Wanganui is a region in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand, around the cities of Palmerston North and Whanganui. - Prioritizing children’s education in disaster-hit areas stressed
The state of education in the country and Millennium Development Goals (MDG) would not improve unless children’s education in disaster-hit areas is set as a priority.
“To achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), it is vital to invest in education so that all children, especially those affected by natural calamities, would receive free education” stressed Country Director, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad of Islamic Relief Pakistan on Tuesday.
